Do You Have “Klout”?

Being an influencer in your field is essential in social media. Everyone is an influencer.  How much influence you see your company having is key when developing a marketing strategy plan. Whether you see yourself as a major player or simply a contributor to the field knowing how you relate to your audience can really shape how you are perceived in your industry. With so many different voices and perspectives it is often difficult for small businesses to make their mark and become influential in their circles and audiences. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a score to measure your online influence? Klout is a platform that you as a small business owner can use to leverage and measure your influence.

The Klout Score is the measurement of your overall online influence. The scores range from 1 to 100 with higher scores representing a wider and stronger sphere of influence. Klout uses over 35 variables to measure…

True Reach

  • The size of your audience that are engaged with your content.

Amplification Score (Scale 1-100)

  • Likelihood your content will generate measurable actions (e.g. retweets, mentions, likes, etc.)

Network Score (Scale 1-100)

  • How influential your engaged audience is in their networks

Klout is designed as a personal networks platform; however, we believe you can being thinking about and using these platforms to familiarize yourself with new ways of measuring influence. Though you aren’t able to connect your Facebook fan page to this network, understanding your influence using your personal Facebook, Twitter (business) and Linkedin accounts can help you measure your company’s influence. Successful marketing starts at the influence of the small business owner. If you can prove your influence in the field, your business can only flourish.

This program is still relatively young so there are some drawbacks; however,  the program can be a great springboard for small business owners such as yourself to begin to understand your influence with your audiences. This type of program (measuing influences) is only the beginning.
